SWEET BABY J'AI

CEO/Founder/Executive Director

Sweet Baby J’ai (pronounced like “Jay”) has been called a jazz master, a culture-shifter and a one-woman movement—but at her core, she’s an artist, educator and truth-teller with a microphone in one hand and a mission in the other.

After more than thirty years as an educator, performer and producer, J’ai founded the Sunset Music & Education Foundation (SMEF) around a simple belief: access to music can change the course of a life. She wanted to create the kind of opportunities she had seen music provide again and again—instruments young people could call their own, mentors who could see their potential, stages where they could discover what was possible, and a community connected across generations through music.
